SOS Children’s Villages

About SOS Children’s Villages

The Ball’s main beneficiary is SOS Children’s Villages. The Austrian Society has a longstanding tradition supporting SOS Children’s Villages, ever since 1962 when it was a beneficiary of the very first Viennese Ball held in Montréal. SOS Children’s Villages was founded in 1949 by a young Austrian doctor to help children who had lost their families and homes during the war. The Villages consist of groups of family homes that give children who would otherwise have no one a family, a stable home, and a good education. Over 500 Children’s Villages are operated in more than 130 countries around the world, raising thousands of children and assisting more through their schools, medical clinics, and community outreach programs.

  • works within communities to prevent child abandonment
  • provides emergency relief to children affected by natural disasters and conflicts
  • advocates for children’s rights at local and international levels
  • adapts programs to local culture

McGill Schulich School of Music

About McGill University’s Schulich School of Music

Proceeds from our Ball have for many years funded bursaries for students at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, that enable them to pursue their studies in Austria for a summer session. The Schulich School of Music includes Pollack Hall, a historical concert space. A notable modern addition is the Elizabeth Wirth Music Building, a state-of-the-art structure that opened in 2006. It houses a recital hall, rehearsal spaces that include an exceptional opera studio with sprung floor, as well as a world class sound studio, audio research labs, and a comprehensive music library for what has become the leading music school in Canada.
